Prof. Jörn Birkmann has received the BAUM Environment and Sustainability Award in the science category for his research on strengthening the sustainability and resilience of cities in the context of extreme events and climate change. The Network for Sustainable Management (BAUM) deliberately honors committed individuals with the Environment and Sustainability Award. The award was established in 1993, primarily to recognize role models and the work of “doers” in companies and science. The BAUM network includes companies such as Weleda, JobRad, Melitta, Porsche, Signal Iduna and DATEV. The award underlines the fact that Prof. Birkmann's research results and impulses are also recognized and appreciated outside of academia. The prize was presented at a ceremony in Hamburg and the winner was interviewed by Prof. Mojib Latif. Prof. Latif is a German meteorologist and climate researcher and President of the Academy of Sciences in Hamburg.
