IPCC Chapter Scientist: Supporting the chapter “Poverty, livelihoods and sustainable development” of the sixth assessment report AR6-WGII of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

Institute of Spatial and Regional Planning (IREUS)

On behalf of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), scientists from around the world compile and assess the latest climate change research and knowledge based on scientific publications. The aim is to provide policymakers with regular scientific assessments on climate change, its implications and potential future risks, as well as to put forward adaptation and mitigation options.

Professor Joern Birkmann is the coordinating lead author (CLA) and responsible for Chapter 8 “Poverty, livelihoods and sustainable development” in Working Group II “Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability” of the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). He is responsible for meeting the requirements of IPCC reports with regard to scientific quality, accuracy, completeness and balance. He also coordinates the international team of authors with colleagues from Africa and Asia. Scientists from the USA and Latin America are also part of the chapter team.

To support these responsibilities and the Chapter 8 author team, members of IREUS -Joanna McMillan, Marvin Ravan and Ali Jamshed- provide scientific assistance as so-called "Chapter Scientists" in close cooperation with the lead authors and author team. The work of the Chapter Scientist is to support the development and quality assurance of the chapter, as well as the communication processes between the authors. This includes the review and documentation of relevant literature, the development and documentation of the chapter parts and figures, as well as supporting the response to review comments and further development of the chapter.
